My harddrives are not connecting?

Hi,

I have 2 SATA harddrives both 160gb. Now, When my Master harddrive is connected to the SATA port it shows up in BIOS as Master. When I try to connect another SATA harddrive (Slave) into the system both my harddrives do not show up in BIOS? I have tried changing ports and all I am getting is things like self shutdowns or my windows 8 loading and saying "your pc needs to restart" and then restarts all by itself?

Computer specs:

Motherboard: Gigabyte 945GZM-S2
CPU: Intel Core Duo 3.40ghz
RAM: 3GB DDR2
Graphic Card: Nvidia Geforce 8500GT

The second drive, or cable or port could be bad. Try a different drive, try a different cable, or different port.

BTW, SATA does not have the slave/master relationship like IDE did, it's just a primary and secondary drive.

Are these Pata harddrives with a sata adapter on them?
