My HDTV is displaying DVI while im using HDMI cable

Ok the title is misleading at first. Becuase i launched windows 8.1 then it displayed on my tv as DVI1. then out of nowwhere, my tv just black screened and became hdmi. Hdmi looks ugly i i want to convert back to dvi. but im using a hdmi cable how did that work and how can i change back

Do you have multiple cables hooked up from the computer to the TV?

Depending upon the size of the TV, you need to sit back a distance from the screen (every 10" of screen size should be at least 1 foot back - a 50" screen, you should be sitting 5 feet back minimum - suggested 10 feet). On some high-end TV's it will look better in "PC Mode".

Ok first i launched my computer and it displayed on my tv as DVI1 IT LOOKED AMAZING. then out of no where it just chagned to HDMI1. i am using an hdmi cable btw. how can i convert back? I am using a tv and it doesnt have a dvi output.

There may be a "PC MODE" on your TV that would make it look better. You may have to consult the TV's owner manual to see if it has this mode.
