Hello, I purchased a headset (if you can even call it that) that came with a built-in mic. Kind of like how earbuds have built-in mics sometimes. It's a little chip that connects in the middle of the wire, and has a button on it. Anyways, I realized that connecting this to a PC would only work one way. I'd have to connect it to the headphone jack, or the microphone jack. I decided i would just buy a splitter- but first i needed to know if the microphone even worked. Well, no. It doesn't work. I tried talking into it pressing the button, without the button.etc. Now this would be dismissed as a faulty mic, but it's a strange case. Now, yelling at 200 decibels doesn't send any signal to the PC that it works, (however, the computer recognizes the mic is plugged in.) I was frustrated and shook the headphones. For some reason, that sent a signal to the PC about sound detection. I tapped one of the earphones, and that actually was detected. So, tapping the left earphone was picked up. I tried talking at the left earphone, but that wasn't detected. I decided to do a test. I was going to record the microphone. And so, i did while i listened on my USB speakers. I tapped the earphone, then spoke; then tapped the earphone again. Surprisingly, the earphone only picked up the tapping noise. This is strange because tapping the actual mic doesn't detect anything. But tapping the earphone where sound comes out... works? I'm really at a loss here. I tried so many things- i'm just guessing these headphones are faulty. Any suggestions? I can't afford more expensive headphones.
