So, I have to have my headset plugged into the back of the PC. And the sound is a lot more quiet than it used to be.

I've been troubleshooting it all day and I'm at the end of my sanity.

My audio drivers are up to date.

I'm using Realtek, but I can't open the console for it. It just won't even start.

I am using an extender for the cable.

I am running Windows 10

If anyone can help, I'll do what I can to provide any other information.

IS the volume normal when you plug into the front panel audio, if you have one?
Which motherboard model?
When I had it plugged into the top, which I think would be the front panel, it was fine.
This is my motherboard - ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. PRIME B450-PLUS (AM4)

And on the back you are using the green audio port on the back? If so, do you have the same delay without the extension (even if you need it, just check it)? Also, I would troubleshoot the Realtek app not opening, when in use it should be available. That will give you your choices depending on the outcome of those checks.

The port on the back is the green audio one. And when not using the extension it has the same problem.

I am having trouble with the Realtek app, it just will not open or even start. I've done everything I can to troubleshoot it, but nothing has worked so far.

I would use the free version of Revo Uninstaller to remove all of the Realtek app and then reinstall the most current version, installed fully it should open and allow changes.
is this Revo uninstaller safe?
Also, what is the latest version of Realtek, and where do I get it?

I use Revo for all uninstalls because it removes all the junk files and registry entries that are otherwise left behind, I've used it for years with great results. You should use the latest available driver download for your motherboard for the Realtek driver at your motherboard support site. It sounds like it is not fully installed or damaged if it won't open although selected in your audio device control panel.

So, I got both, and now the Realtek console opens. Thank you for that, now its just the other problem now.

Good start.
The headphones play well without the extension, since that is not normal is there any way that you can test the extension -- perhaps it is the issue. Try it on another device with the extension and try a different extension.
