my hp laptop is really getting on my nerves

I recently updated my hp laptop and ever since the wifi on it has been really screwed up. At first it stopped working so I scanned it for problems and it fixed itself but then about a week later it forgot the password to my router. When it did this I was like its no big deal i'll just reenter the password. So I did. When I put it in though even though the pass word is correct it wouldn't accept it and keeps saying cant connect to this network. So I scanned my laptop again and it said network cables were not plugged in or broken, but I know this is not true because other laptops in my house are connected to it and working fine. Are there any ways to fix my laptop?

restarting a router and modem should help by:unplug it from the wall for couple minutes and restart your laptop at same time.
