My hp laptop wont boot up

Hello,i own a hp pavilion bb4 that can't boot up, i only get a gray screen with the option to continue, boot manager, boot from file and to setup from utility and when i choose either of them, couple seconds later it shuts down, also i should mention that the battery needs to be replaced,but that has never affected it's starting up.are these problems linked together?

How old is the unit, and why would you ignore a warning that the battery needs replacing ? If the CMOS battery is dead, you won't boot.
