The title is the problem. Its missing a hard drive and has a bad battery. I boot into linux from a usb when it is plugged into the wall, but it randomly shuts down (although it does have time to properly boot). If I turn it on again immediately after, it shuts down immediately. If I wait a little bit, it will run again for a little (a couple minutes) and shuts down. I opened it up and cleaned the fan and applied thermal paste to the cpu. The problem persists. If you need any more information to help fix the problem, just ask.

PS: When it last shut down, it was at 45 degrees C.

I had time to download psensor on Linux mint and that is where I got my temps

sorry but no i dont know the actual temperature --but if you google dv6 overheating you will see what i mean

usually you have to clean out the heatsink fins and while you have it apart put some decent thermal paste on

those models are as well known for it as the other HP cock up with the gpu solder breaking down

I applied new thermal paste and cleaned the fan. What do you mean when you say gpu solder break down?

what do you think the problem is then? I looked everywhere for my kind of case but couldnt find an answer

I tried that and the BIOS is very difficult to maneuver. I could not find temperatures.

Im not even sure that the BIOS has temp monitoring software in it.

a cooler that u put the laptop on and it blows up into it. if so, then yes

it didnt solve the problem.

i tried to increase fan speed but cant find it in the BIOS

and the fan doesnt speed up as the computer heats up and shuts down
