My HP Pavilion dv7 just won't detect my graphics card after system upgrade.

I have recently updated my computer from Windows Vista to Windows 7 Ultimate x32. Prior to the "upgrade", my notebook was functioning perfectly, apart from the flawed OS. I have decided to install Windows 7, and stupidly deleted EVERYTHING I had on my computer. After several hours of fucking around with installing my previous games and drivers, I found out that Nvidia won't detect my GTX 9600 graphics card. It just displays Standard VGA adapter when I try finding it in the device and drivers manager. I downloaded the latest drivers for it from Nvidia's official website, and it won't install it, saying there's an error. I tried going to BIOS but that was of no success, since there isn't anything regarding graphics cards in there. So.. what now? Should my 250$ go down the fucking drain?

Thanks windows, for reminding me I am a dumb fuck and should never install your update again.

Also, I tried taking to an IT friend of mine and he said I am in trouble. Big trouble.

I installed it, but it still doesn't work.
