So my laptop has been running hotter than normal. I downloaded Speccy and it stated that my CPU temp was between 99-120 degrees Celsius. I only use the laptop for browsing the internet and work. I took it apart and found nothing in the fan but I cleaned it anyway. I then cleaned and reapplied thermal paste. Its running between 80-99 degrees Celsius now. That still seems insanely hot to me...If its normal for HP laptops to run this hot please let me know but something does not seem right.

Thanks,
-Mark

Solution
its a bug in the hp temp sensor. your trinity chip should force to shutdown at about 95c for thermal protection.

my a10 laptop has done it before after being trapped under covers.

if it was running at 95c the left portion of your keyboard would literally feel hot. if your ports are clean and you have done a good thermal paste job, dont worry about it.

Used to work in a repair shop, the G6 has a fairly common problem (in our experience) with cooling issues and the DC jack. It's most likely the cooling fans, you probably have to replace them, and as always you should blow out dust/residue with an air compressor/can.

the hp laptops are definitely not the best at cooling the hot running amd trinity chips. that said, no matter what the temp program says, it is impossible to be running at 120c. it the case that a cpu "might" be still running at that temp, you would smell burning electronics. after 100c, things will start melting for sure, especially if that temp or higher is sustained.

Nikoli707,

Thanks for the info and help. That is what I was thinking. I looked at it and saw 121 degrees Celsius and thought my laptop should be melted. I mean the bottom of it was warm but not boiling. After cleaning the fan and replacing the thermal paste the laptop seems cool but it still says its hot. The fan seems to work fine and the computer itself is doing well. I downloaded a couple other programs and they all give the same temp.

Hi Mark,

sorry for my english,
I was typing this Answer by HP pavilion g6 amd a8 4500m laptop.. dual graphics 7670+7640..
What you are saying is 100% true..

In my case you're lucky.. my speccy and other temperature software reads 131' Celsius maximum high.. Really..
I was shocked when i saw this temp... I Never buy hp amd laptop's in my life .. this is medium gaming laptop but i did not play any games just browsing the web with chrome and using metatrader software..even its shows 125-130' degree , then what will happen if run any high end game..

with my experience what i am doing now for my laptop ..
1. Using a Cooling pad (decreased 5-10' Celsius)

2. Minimize the processor power state ( decreased 5-10')

3. Not running unnecessary programs - Task manager (decreased 1-5' Celsius)

4. Not a solution.. Low temperature environment.. AC ON- high.. my weather in here is max 35' Celsius feels 40'..

with doing all this things laptop now runs 90-100' Celsius..

PS: i am not applying thermal paste yet .. so hope it will decrease little bit more...
i also created a thread in tomshardware relating my issue.. but not get any response yet..

Thanks
Amit

The g6 series is garbage, they cant cool themselves under heavy load properly, you will need a cooling pad. Mine had an i5 3210m and a 7670m and consistently stayed in 70-80c range.

Use amd overdrive to monitor temps, as this processor will not go above 100c without shutdown, most programs read the temps wrong.
