My HP PSC 1610xi displays remove and check right cartridge

I just got a generic refill for my HP PSC 1610xi a while back. I don't know if its empty or whats going on. The color cartridge has been out for a while. Took color to Walgreens and they said it was a fail to fill. But the black has been working up until a day ago. I feels pretty light but we havn't done a lot of printing so I wouldn't think it would be out. I just get the display "Remove and check right cartridge" and I have tried everything to try to get it to work.
