hello there please help me i am using an i5 7400 for an yearn and yesterday i cleaned my cpu fan and removed some dust from my case ,and then i checked my temprature for i5 7400 on idle using steam and crome its around 39 to 55 degree celsius and while gaming it reaches 85 degree celsius and sometime 90 degree celsius ,do i have to apply some thermal paste or what and yeah i am using a stock cooler.
HELP!

Solution
Tjunction of this CPU is 100°C (internal die temperature)
CPUs will throttle at higher than rated CPU temperatures, so there is no danger, but you could get perfomance issues here and then. Just watch out for lags in game or similar. The stock cooler will provide 75°C under load in games, that´s totally fine. 85°C is ok but, if i doesn´t throttle the frequency while gaming.

Which motherboard are you using? Could be a BIOS issue as well, if it´s not the latest version.

If the answer to that is yes (meaning it does sit tightly and it's still hot) --> disassemble, wipe thermal paste off, re-apply thermal paste.
If that doesn't work --> buy new thermal paste
If that doesn't work --> defective cooler or simply just a bad cooler

I don't remember Intel CPUs coming with stock coolers. What do you mean by this?

You also asked "do i have to apply some thermal paste" = The answer will always be YES. Thermal paste is a must. Or you'll be frying both the cooler and the CPU. If you didn't put any, that's the problem.

ok soo i will buy a new thermal paste and apply it and then see what happens.

i have got an intel fan with i5 7400
you can search about intel i5 7400 cpu

I see, I didn't know that. It could just be the Kabylake series then as I have been looking strongly into that.

@arnavrawatdevil do you overclock?

Also, it could be worth checking out in the off-chance the software you're using might not be updated to its latest version or it could simply be a bad one. Maybe trying downloading NZXT Cam, MSI Afterburner and even checking directly through your motherboard BIOS upon Startup.

I only hope that it's not a defective cooler because it could take weeks until Intel replaces it with a new one if you're still under warranty. If not, there are some pretty decent 20$ CPU cooling options out there that provide satisfying results.

Only OEM/TRAY CPUs and some "K" CPUs are not delivered with stock "boxed" coolers.

The 7400 can´t be overclocked by voltage or multi, so it wouldn´t get hotter even if the bclk would have been raised, but resetting the BIOS by jumper can´t hurt, if the fan curve or similar was altered.

How hot is your ambient temperature? (room temp.)

my room temprature is around 25 degree celsius and yeah my cpu is reaching 82 degree max when 80% load my fan is working fine but yeah my thermal paste is very low spreaded on cpu .... on idle its 34 degree to 45 degree .

Well you're getting close. It sould be around 35 degrees Celcius on idle. But usually shouldn't go past 40.
Does your load go above 10% on idle?

If the thermal paste is applied poorly like you say. I'd suggest you wipe it clean with a bit of pure alcohol or just a cloth if you don't have any. And then re-apply some.

now i ahve reapplied my thermal paste and on 100% load max temprature is 75 Degree celsius which i think is normal cause in india the room temprature it 30 degree

I live in Bali, Indonesia. Room temperature is the same as you.

With the Airconditioner ON and CPU at 100% --> I get 55-60 degrees.
With the Airconditioner OFF and CPU at 100% --> I get 60-65 degrees.

That temperature is safe. But don't lost hope man. Keep trying :)

sooo 75 degree celsius is safe for i5 7400 on 100% load right cause i have readed somewhere that the cabilake is very hot and till 85 degree celsius its ok
