Hello,
wondering about my idle temps of average 60 degrees celsius. I'm at around 70c under moderate load. 75 ish prime95. Battlefield games draw more power and run hot. Is something wrong? Should I reseat the cpu and cooler(arctic something or other thermal kit)
------------------------------------------------------
my system as follows. win 7 ultimate. no oc.
evga x58 sli3 motherboard
3x6gb patriot mem
intel i7 920 @2.67 ghz
corsair 1500w psu
corsair h50 watercooler
gtx 680 vid
2 hdds nothing special
nzxt phantom case
12 fans
2 w/ radiator top/rear exhaust
2 160mm top exhaust
1 100mm gpu exhaust
2 100mm side/mid exhaust
1 120mm lower/front IN
2 100mm side/lower front IN
2 120mm bottom In

Solution
Intel specifies a max temp of 100C, and a few web sites recommend keeping it under 80 or 85C, so your temp is probably o.k.
Does seem a little high for a water cooled CPU: Have a friend running a 920 and h50 and I don't think we have seen over 65 no matter what we did.
Might want to make sure the cooling block is tightened down and seated.
Try running your radiator fans as INTAKE, and your side mid fans as INTAKE. The two top 160's as exhaust and the 680 exhaust should be enough, and you will approach something like positive air pressure.
Good luck. Please repost and let us know what happens.

Ok well, where to begin. First I tried switching the fans around a little bit with no significant result. Then I got arctic silver mx2 thermal kit. Peeled the cpu. And boy was I astonished to see that the 2 year old previous thermal paste was now a clear gooey....mess. I ordered a Ram upgrade with the thermal kit. So I did a minor overhaul. Which in turn blew my mobo somehow, everything was grounded, in a controlled environment. I also had a spare cpu laying around which I threw in (i7 940). Now I'm running intel dx58so board( I know kinda old but it beats another $400 mobo), gskill ripjaws 3x12 ddr3 pc 1600 (12800), i7 940, the rest is the same. A new cooler is on the way as well. I Can't get over 65c. Idle temps are 39c. prime 95 = 60-63c. battlefiled4 50-59c. Oh yeah I'm overclocked to 3.6ghz as well

Oringinal EVGA thermal paste sucked. I was overheating. I have a weird outline of what looks like a chalky substance on the back side of the motherboard(old evga x58). It outlines the main components. I cant scratch it off with my nails either.

and i made a mistake on my old cpu speed it was 2.67ghz not 3.
Thank you for the response.
