When we signed up with my ISP we got a 15/3 plan(15mbps down and 3mbps up that is). They have been nothing but great so far, until I asked about using my own router. I was given a Zhone router and modem combo machine which seemed to do fine, but I wanted to manage my own network, and they weren't willing to give out the Username and Password. They said I could get my own setup, but they wouldn't be able to troubleshoot for me if that was the case.
After a while I gave in. I am using an ADSL2+ modem from best buy and an n300 Netgear router. I can only get my connection to work when I make the modem use the built in router function and then make my router an access point. As a result my network speed is crippled, I have extreme latency problems in online games, and I do not get as much customization with my network as I would like. Any thoughts/comments/suggestions are welcome. Thanks.
