my keyboard doesnot work when the message say press any key to boot window

my father pc is qite old
now i m experiencing a new prob
my keyboard works fine when it enter bios and all lights working fine but the moment it continue frm thr all lights go off nd no key respond
so when xp window cd say

If it is a USB keyboard, check in the BIOS settings that Operating System has control over USB devices. Some older BIOS had that setting and without it, Windows doesn't even know there's a keyboard there. If that setting doesn't exist, borrow a PS2 (round, purple plug) keyboard.

my keyboard doesnot work when the message say press any key to boot FROM cd...

i have ps2 keyboard and it works satisfactorily during bios setup.bt when option for booting from cd appears.i.e "press any key to boot from cd.." my keyboard doesnt work. i tried usb keyboard as well.bt it didnt work.kindly help me.i wan t to format my pc on urgent basis
