My laptop can't see the wifi from my other (older) computer

Ok so I just installed windows 8 on my Samsung laptop and now I am unable to see the wifi provided by my old Sony Vaio (windows 7).

On the Sony I have an application that mimics a physical WiFi router and even though I couldn't see the wifi hotspot with any kind of smartphone (the wifi symbol looked like three monitors instead of the classic barred symbol ), my laptop could easily find it at the time.

But now, after upgrading to windows 8 and installing new drivers I can't find that connection. I don't have this issue with other wireless connections.

I tried updating drivers..... installing new ones.... but I honestly don't know what I'm doing and I don't want to mess stuff up.

The Samsung laptop has an Intel (R) Centrino (R) Wireless-N 130
The Sony one has an Intel (R) Wireless Wifi Link 4965agn

I hope I provided enough information on this matter. I'm not very tech savvy 🙁

Please help :)

There is something abnormal with your WIFI emulation if no phones and this new OS can't see it. Maybe it is configured as an ad-hoc rather than infrastructure device.

Thank you for the reply.

Well, yes, the sharing mode is set to Point-to-Point Ad-hoc, WEP and the only thing I can change is whether there is Encryption or not.
But I'm trying to figure out why it was working fine before and how I can make it work again.

I should also mention that I've used other applications that mimic a WiFi router and they all had the same symbol from this computer (3 monitor thingy) and they all worked fine when I last had windows 8 on my laptop. (at first I had windows 8 on my samsung- then win7- and now win8 again). Oh, and the sony laptop is like 8 years old at least if that makes any difference.

This is the first time that my laptop has trouble seeing that WiFi hotspot. Is it a possibility that there may be some sort of incompatibility between the drivers I recently installed and some other stuff? Is that how it works? Please advise further:)
