My laptop Hdd failed after using a fogger in the house. I want to recover the files to put on spare hdd.

All I want to do is recover files. since I had purchased a new used IBM T40 Think Pad to use this hard drive on a failed laptop, I had 2 hard drives. the one it came with and my old one, that had I think a virus or something. I was trying to find a program that would detect and repair this problem. but also had an infestation here of tiny little bug in my laptop so I covered it with a towel to prevent damage and left it in the house when I fogged. now that drive won't boot. I had turned it off, but it was plugged into power. So I can use the spare hdd I had, but I still need my files. I only have a partial back up nothing really up to date so I want to get an enclosure to see if I can recover my files. but the ones I see say 2.5 inch enclosure. this one measures about 2 6/8 of an inch across. So I do not know if it will fit in this enclosure. they have a kit that is supposed to hook up everything but I really don't want those, if I don't have to. cost is about $20 more. and it is just the wires not the enclosure and even then I am not sure that would fit either. I believe it might work as an external drive even.. Wish they had better photos but even then it wont say if it holds smaller or other sizes. I am hoping someone can answer this so I know what to get. thank you

An enclosure meant for a 2.5" drive will work. (2.5" is the actual platter size)

But a USB SATA/IDE cable will work. I have one, and use it regularly.

Awesome. the cables I would love to have. but with it being the holidays money is tight and this happened at a bad time for me. I found the enclosure for less than $5. and the cables were about $35 give or take. I was pretty sure the 2.5 didn't refer to size of the case., but I wasn't able to find anything specific on it. and one did say 2.5 inches. which is why I have spent hours looking. so thank you so much for that. I want the cables for later since I have about 5 pcs. I need to repair. most are easy fixes. just need money. lol. but this laptop is my main user right now. so thank you thank you.
