My laptop is outdated and i dont know how to upgrade

My laptop is an acer aspire e15 with intel i5-7200u, nvidia gtx 950m , 8gb ddr4 ram and 1Tb HDD I use my laptop for gaming but my specs are outdated so i was thinking i could either update my cpu using bga rework and repair station (my cpu is glued to the motherboard)and also upgrade ram hard drive and use an egpu but the best cpu my motherboard can support is i7-6850k and in total this upgrade is quite expensive, otherwise i would upgrade the motherboard and get an even better cpu which again wouldn't be cheap and finally i could just buy a good desktop and use my laptop as a display so if i travel i can use my current laptop. If i go for the desktop option i already know what to buy. What option should i pick or is there a better way to upgrade ?

You can upgrade your current PC by buying a new one. Your idea of getting a desktop to do gaming and use your laptop for travel and work is the better idea
