My Acer Aspire 5 works fine, except for one thing - using the audio jack. The issue is, when I plug in my headphones, the "Which device did you plug in?" Message pops up, but even when I select headphones and press OK, the audio still comes out of the speakers. I finally figured out a pattern to get it to work. I have to: Plug in headphones > OK > Unplug and plug back in > No message pops up > Unplug and plug back in > hit the arrow on the top right of the message clearing it. Hitting OK doesn't work. This sequence is the only consistent way for me to use headphones and I have to do it every single time. Can you guys solve the issue? I'm using Windows 10. I've tried disabling and reenabling drivers, updating software, changing the device it asks me what I'm using, but the only consecutive way is what I described above.

First, make sure you're on the latest BIOS update for your laptop. Then uninstall and reinstall your audio drivers with the latest found off of Acer's support site. Which version of Windows 10 are you working with? What is the make and model of your headphones?

Windows 10 Home 1909, Apple Earpods w/ 3.5 mm Headphone Plug. I don't think the device I'm 'plugging in matters because it works just fine on the computers at school. I've also tried Aux Cables plugged into speakers and I still have to do the sequence.

Is updating BIOS really necessary? There are warnings all over the web - even on the Acer Support screen about updating being harmful... Looking through the newer updates, it doesn't seem I necessarily need any of them.
