I've seen that happen to a system when the wrong cable connection type was used, but that was on a desktop. I think it was a high end monitor and was using a single link DVI vs Dual-Link DVI like it should have been, cut the screen into 4 parts.
Did you replace the screen? If you did, you may not have gotten the right screen for your model or did not hook it up fully, or you could have a damaged pin(s) on the connector.
