My laptop suddenly has lots of space

Hello,

My laptop's hard drive usually has like 30 GB of free space. However since yesterday I am noticing I have about 200 GB of free space all of a sudden. What might be the reason of this? I havent manually deleted any files. Thanks for your help.

Hey dsam. This is quite unusual. What do you have on that particular partition? Do you have any software scheduled to clean temp files and other folders on your computer? Did you notice anything to be missing, because that's quite a lot of space. I'd recommend that you update the database of you anti-virus program and make a full scan of your drives to see if there's a virus or malware.

Thanks Boogieman for your response. I do not have any partition, just C drive. So everything is in it. By everything I mean windows, some games, videos, songs, pictures, documents, some softwares, etc. Hard drive is 500 GB. I do not have any software for cleaning any files or folders. I have avast as my antivirus. After I found the sudden increase in space, I ran malwarebyte and superantispyware. Both did not find anything. However, I have not manually acanned with avast yet. As of now I do not notice any missing files. All the programs that I tried running are running fine. So I am a little freaked out why this happened.

I honestly can't think of something that would eat up so much space. It's good that everything's OK and nothing is missing. I'd recommend that you backup your most important data (if you haven't done it already) and keep regular backups from now on just in case something goes wrong.

@dsam, you might like to try scanning the drive for deleted files with a tool such as Recuva.
