I bought a pair of axent wear headphones a while ago, and the aux cord they came with eventually got a short in it, so I replaced it with a cheap one from amazon. With the new cord, my laptop won't recognize the mic anymore (it still reads it with the old one, so I know it is the cord). My laptop only has one place to plug in headphones/mics and the cord only plugs in one place.
Is there a specific type of aux cord I should have bought or is there another way to fix this?

Solution
Sounds like a faulty headset to me. Does it work on other devices? If yes, then the only resolution would be to either return them and get a different kind or get yourself a 3.5mm to USB adapter and connect that way.
