Hello,

i have a Acer R3 laptop and when i connect my laptop to the ethernet im only getting 52 down 32 up, but when i got to my wifi i get 97 down 38 up? i know its something to do with the laptop as ethernet works perfectly on my PC.

What i've done so far.

1. Change Cables (Using Cat 6A)
2. Change Port on switch

Solution
It could be a number of things like said, the router, or switch you are using, most new switches or routers have Ethernet ports on them capable of doing 10,100,1000 Mbps.

Like wise the Lan port on you laptop needs to be checked for what speed the port can run at maximum speed.
10, 100, 1000Mbps.

If you go to control panel in windows.
And click on System and security.
Then look at system.

You will see device manager.
Click on it.
Then click on your network devices listing.
You should see both the wireless and the Ethernet port listed there.
Left double click on the wired Ethernet device listing.

Click on the advanced tab in the new box that opens.

Scroll down the list till you get to speed and duplex settings.
In the pull down box...
How old is the router? Routers usually have a rating called Lan to Wan speed. This is the speed at which the switch can send data to the internet port. Older routers didn't factor in such high internet speeds and it can make this a problem. Happened with my 8 port gigabit business class vpn router, drove me nuts. Is your laptop the only wired device that can't reach full speed?

The router is a Telstra GateWay Max 6 months old (Service Provider dont allow you to install any router). Yes the laptop is the only device that reach full speed, The Ethernet port on the laptop is 1gbps

Is it possible to attach another device like a desktop or different laptop to the router by the same cable, then test the speeds? Are they getting max or crippled speed?

If it's only the laptop, you may want to check the manufactures website and see if you can find an updated ethernet driver.

In the pull down box to the top right select your speed, and full duplex mode.
Click ok and apply.
Restart your system and let windows load then test the Ethernet net port of the laptop, or computer again.

Use www.Speedtest.net. as a test on the throughput of the adapter in Mbps.
