My lcd monitor small fonts show with bad resolution

in my 5 years old lcd monitor the fonts smaller than 16 points has inconsistant resolution, they are partly faded but larger fonts looks ok. My OS is Vista. could you please tell me what could be the rteason. Do I have to buy a new one or there is a solution for that.

Try to select the monitor's native resolution and refresh rate in Windows Display Properties.
