Please do try these troubleshooting steps that may help.
- Start by making sure that the mic cable is connected properly into the port.
- Unplug then plug it back in just to make sure it's seated properly.
- If it will not work, uninstall/reinstall the Sound card driver.
- Go to Device Manager and uninstall the Sound driver.
- Once uninstalled, download and install the latest driver from the manufacturer site of the PC.
- Reboot the PC once the latest driver has been installed.
- After the reboot, do make sure that the mic is set as the default recording device.
- Right click on the speaker icon and select Recording Devices then right click on your microphone if it's listed then select Set Defaults and test it again.
- If it will still not work, do run System Restore.
