my microphone isnt working

I just bought a new microphone and I have set it up and plugged it in but in my sound settings it shows up but it says it has not been plugged in. What should I do?

i have changed the audio port and it now shows up as plugged in but dosent pick up any audio

nvm its gone back to being unplugged
