My microphone stopped working

So, as the headline says, my microphone stopped working. I accidentally pulled the cord, and then it stopped working, so, thinking that I broke it, I plugged in another headset, but that mic didn't work either? The first one is plugged in via USB, and the second one via jack, so I am completely lost.

Any ideas?

EDIT: Sorry, I forgot about system details.
Windows 10 Education, 64-bit
Motherboard: Z170-Gaming K3
CPU: i5-6600K
RAM: 16GB
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 6GB

As mentioned, this thing happened out of the blue, but I have tested with another headset and different input method with no luck, so I really have no clue what the problem could possibly be. Thanks for your time.

EDIT 2:
I have some new information about this issue. When I yell into the mic - nothing. When I yell at the volumecontrol-Mic on/off-thingy, I get some green bars. And I mean, really yell, as in almost screaming my lungs out. I've tried this with both headsets, and on two different computers and it's the same. This is the weirdest PC-related thing I have ever experienced.

USB one doesn't go thru chip on MB, it has own coder to digital. It should show up in Device manager on it's own.
The other one connects to analog input. Does it have separate jack for microphone and earphones ? Your MB has Realtec CODEC chip so you should be able to set it as default recording device in Control Panel > Realtec HD Audio Manager or Control panel > Sound > Recording tab.

Yes, seperate jack for microphone and earphones. It's already set as default, I've never had any problems with it, it happened very suddenly, actually while I was talking to a friend, he just said "I think you cut out", and when I continued speaking, we found out that he couldnt hear me at all. When I go to the recording tab, I get no green bars, I used to get full bars. I'm so confused about this, it doesn't make any sense to me.
