My MOHPA wait is over.

Well, an update on my preorder. It is now just a couple weeks shy of one year since I preordered it from EBGames. The games finally came in the mail today. Very steep system requirements for this one. I'll report back after spending a little time gaming.

Yeah your system sux, get a new one!

Geez, you're like one step up from a P3 with a GF2mx!

Well, I haven't even installed it yet, nor cracked open the box neither. Just got in from raking frozen leaves all afternoon. (first snow/ice dusting of year last night)

I expect my system to handle it just fine at 1024 med-high details, about like FarCry. I have a feeling 1280 High just won't happen. But first thing I did was look at the requirments and I was suprised to see how steep they are:

OS: Win XP or 2000
CPU: 1.5Ghz P4 or Athlon
RAM: 512MB or more
Video 64MB DX8.1 Compatible ATI - Radeon 8500 or Higher; NV GF3 or Higher (but not the GF4MX series)

Anyway, the fact that a GF4MX won't work, as well as 512MB ram minimum, surprised me. I think these are pretty good minimum requirments for anyone hoping to play the releases of 2005. 256MB of ram just ain't gonna cut it anymore. Nor will the mighty GF4MX.

Edit: Well, got 45 minutes in and I like it so far. Set to 1024 medium, with High Quality 5.1 Sound, it played 99+% smooth and typical fps seemed to indicate room to bump it up. I want to try 1024 high and 1280 med, then maybe try and tweak it from there. Only 2 times did I see it drop below 30fps for a second, and that was when heavy airplane attacks were underway.

1024 High/High is easily playable. Here is a 1 minute Fraps bench of a action packed segment on deck at pearl harbor D. It is non stop firing.

OK, so what about the gameplay? Whatda ya' think so far.

I was at EB the other day and the guy there (who showed me my HL2 LE DVD set) said he really liked the game itself, but wasn't sure about online yet.

Good to hear about the playability, maybe 800x600 on the R9600Pro OC'd, but the GF6600/x700 should do OK with it then.

Gameplay? I'll tell you after I finish HL2.

Actually, I have mixed reactions to MOHPA. I do like it and see myself finishing the singleplayer and heading onto multiplayer. The thing that annoys me is the short gameplay between load scenes. Opposite of farcry where the gameplay never pauses to load. MOHPA seems to have some scenes less than a minute long. Anyway, all in all it's a good game so far. I am looking forward to getting better at it.

I got the directors edition of this game and Single Player mode was great but multiplayer is horrible for every server I logged onto was very laggy. Also the game consumes way too much memory for at high/high/dx9 i was using well over a gig of ram and Doom 3 even at ultra never used that much.

There is a 1.1 patch out but it does not resolve my complaints with the game.
