i've googled this a lil and it seems like im missing a cable?

i'll explain this in short, on my computer my monitor would go to 144hz the way it is, started using my dads computer (2 graphics cards, 980s), and my monitor wont go to 144hz, is that why? according to nvidia its VGA display.

also: just took some cord from my old shitty 60hz viewsonic monitor, a cord with 2 white cables on each end, (my 144hz monitor has blue ones), and it didnt do anything, no signal

What monitor?

Blue cable is VGA, you won't be able to get 144 Hz with that.

yeah I realized that, my question is though why was I able to use it on my old computer and get 144hz with it? I dont understand why a 144hz monitor would come with a cable that doesnt support 144hz? My old monitor was dvi d single link btw so.

Probably just as a backup. What monitor is it?

You can use DVI to get 144 Hz. Did you switch the input on the monitor to DVI when you tried to use it?
