[SOLVED] My monitor works only with certain pc's

OK,so I have a VGA monitor and my pc has 2 hdmi ports so naturally I bought an adapter.
The adapter worked for a couple of weeks and then my monitor displays grey pixels and dies.Afterwards I connect my pc to the tv with an hdmi cable to see if it works and it did but only with one hdmi port the second one didnt work .Then I connected my monitor to my xbox with the same adapter and it worked fine.
Gpu: RX 580 Nitro+ Sapphire
CPU:I5 4550
16gb ram
1 tb hdd
220 gb ssd
What am I supposed to do

Try another adapter or get a newer monitor with HDMI so you don't need to use the adapter.
