Question My mother board is burning upon switching on. What would cause this?

I have a acer ipisb-vr rev 1.01 motherboard . While using the desktop it suddenly turned off I unhooked the back panel and searched for error. After plugging off and back some cables I switched it on again and the desktop cake to life but a component in the motherboard started burning. I cannot switch on the system as the motherboard chip is burning each time. what could cause this?

Incorrectly connected USB is a common cause.

Burning: short circuit or over-voltage.

What component was burned? Are you able to post a photograph?
