My motherboard isn't recognizing an Ethernet cord

I have an MSI motherboard. It has an intel WIFI adapter. I usually use the adapter however I recently tried to hook it up with an ethernet cord to see how much faster it is. I plugged in the cord to the modem and then to the ethernet port on my motherboard and nothing happened. The light in the ethernet port on my motherboard is also not on (it never has been), not sure if that means anything. I turned off wifi and went into network center to see if it had recognized the ethernet cord but it didn't. When I try to set up a new connection it always recommends Wifi and only Wifi. Not sure if the port is not working on the motherboard because I have tried multiple ethernet cords, all of them worked before on my Xbox. Any ideas?

Don't know what MB you have but you could check in bios and see if the lan is disabled. Also look into device manager and see if there are any yellow markers on any devices. If so that probably means that a driver is missing or corrupted and could even mean the wrong driver. Find your lan in disk manager and load the latest driver from the MB web site. A few years ago windows update messed up my lan driver by loading something that would not work. Removed the driver and installed the correct one. Now I have win update set to just notify me when updates are available so I can make sure that I do not let windows install any more drivers.

Thank you very much! I went into device manager and under other devices there was a yellow marker on Ethernet controller. Went to MSI's website and downloaded the LAN driver. I swore I downloaded all of them when I built it but guess not, plus I'm not the most tech-savvy guy. Thank you for helping fix the problem!
