Like the title explains, on disc launch no drivers or utilities show up to download. I have a H97 Gaming 3 motherboard from MSI with a brand new custom made pc (windows 10). The disc doesnt show anything so ive gone to msi and directly downloaded all the driver files for my motherboard and windows edition, chucked it on a usb, plugged that in to my new usb...but what now? Ive been looking all over for how to videos or faqs but theres nothing on how to proceed next

I was updating some of my MSI drivers just last week. Here's how:

All of the MSI/Intel/Realtek drivers that I found were .ZIP folders. Navigate to where you stored the ZIP folders on your USB flash drive. Select a folder and double click on it. This should bring up an option in the upper left area of the dialog box saying "Extract all Files", click on this and it should extract your files to a subfolder.

There will be several files, and maybe additional subfolders, listed. Typically there is a "readme.txt" file which will furnish directions and installation notes, if needed. I just look for a "Setup.EXE" file and double click it. That will usually get the ball rolling. Just follow the self explanatory instructions from there.

NOTE: Almost every driver installation file recommends "Closing All Running Programs before clicking on NEXT, below" Be sure to do this or you could screw up the driver installation.

Easy Peasy!

I tried that, but i could only extra and run chipset, which i have done. rebooted pc, tried to extract other files but it wont let me extract the files. I get an error message (error code: 0x80004005) ive tried searching about it but it suggest to disable any network adapters, dont have any connected and start in safe mode which i believe ive done, problem not resolved.

I had a similar issue and it seems like it Windows 10 related. The driver I needed the most was the LAN driver so I could get online. I did an explore of the CD and found the network drivers and ran the setup directly from there. That worked great for the LAN driver. The rest of the drivers I installed from the MSI site (they have a software you will need to install).

As a side note, I had to install Win 7 so I could do the Win 10 upgrade. In Win 7 the CD runs great and everything shows up. That is why I am suspecting that its related to Win 10.

I totally agree in that its a windows 10 issue. can you point me directly to the lan driver? because if i can set up that and get online thats a massive help and i should be able to go from there.

If you have the CD in the drive you can right click on the drive and select open (not autorun) this should open the CD in a file browser window. In there you'll see a list of folders a labeled appropriately. You should see a folder that says Network. In there will be probably 2 folders. My LAN driver for my MSI Z97 Gaming board was the Killer LAN driver, however depending on your mobo, there may be other drivers in there. Try both and one should work. You'll know if it doesn't work since it won't be able to find the component.

Hope that helps!

My MSI board was the same. I'd have the CD in (maybe the USB works better?), and it'd find -other- drivers that need to be installed, but it didn't put forth any of its own. I had to go to the browse disk option, like mentioned above, and go to every single file and look for a .exe or application file. Click it. If it doesn't work it's because it might not be for your particular system. I say this because it was my own experience of doing it (today in fact)... but my MSI board should have a feature called Mystic Light and as of yet, that app won't install. Says I lack something or another.

So yeah, I share your frustration. Just go rooting around the folders and get what you can. If something isn't working and you know it should, do extra research in to it.

But I'm confounded as to why it's not all an instant install.

so my os is windows 10. the disc doesnt work for windows 10 only up to 8.1..so i downbloaded the driver files from msi site that are compatible with windows 10. however when i plugged in my usb with the correct files and go to extract the files to my pc, it wont let me. error 0x80004005

My OS is also windows 10. I was able to 'auto play' the disk and come to an MSI screen. There I went to the 'middle' option where it listed downloads from the disk (though they were unclickable), then clicked 'browse disk'. I installed about 5 or more things that way, starting with command center.

I believe there are a few things you have to get from various websites though, depending on your board there are hotfixes or newer installs to be put in... not necessarily to do with your motherboard itself. For instance I had to go to Intel and grab some things. And Asmedia. So... It might just be easier to use the website, and run each individually? But ideally try to get the stuff working that was provided with your board. You can always upgrade to newer releases later.

Not sure why you are plugging in a usb with the correct files to extract them if you've already downloaded them? I just used 'run' on each from the 'downloads' folder without extracting anything. Worked fine. Make sure you're downloading files with the latest date and from the website itself, if that helps?

I'd try the disk again tbh. It's easier to search through if you find where the files are.

my friend was amazing and managed to get us internet! he went to device manager then changed the network adapter route code manually to the driver we installed and extracted on my other pc. I got internet, installed live update which installed a bunch of drivers. but no my monitor keeps going to sleep? this was just after installing trend micro security

Glad to see that you are making progress!

MSI Live Update has its uses, such as updating drivers, but I prefer to download them from the MSI website and install them manually (as described above).

One note of caution: NEVER EVER use LU to update your BIOS/UEFI!! Many ppl have bricked their boards by attempting to do so! Someone will prolly come on here and tell how it worked for them, but why take the risk?
