I just bought the ARCTIC Freezer 7 PRO Rev. 2 to go with my AMD A8 6600K (FM2+ socket). However, the socket does not seem to fit even though in amazon's Q&A section people have said it will. Am I being stupid or do I need to return the fan? Thanks in advance.

Solution
yeah make sure youre using the right mounting bracket, if its listed as compatible on the manufacturers website then it has to fit and if it doesnt you should get a refund as its false advertisement.

Ya it's just 2 additional pins for the "+" so it should fit. I was looking at Newegg Specs and does not list fm2+ as compatible but as you said Arctics page does list it???

no their page says fm2 but if the mounting holes are the same then it should fit anyway

Uhhmm.... Well I'm using an MSI A55M-E33 motherboard if that helps... The mounting holes don't seem to fit properly.

OK thanks for the advice. I read on a different post on this site that fm2+ which is required for the a8-6600k apu has the same cooling socket as the am3+, which this cooler supports. Anyway, I think it's my motherboard anyway. I managed to get a refund on amazon thanks to their returns policies.

Thanks again,

Nathan

The freezer 7 would have fitted mate - what you were missing is that it only mounts vertically with the fan at the bottom - trying to fix it the normal way (fan near the ram) the holes wouldn't line up.

Best bet for that case is one of these 2 (I think the evo is too deep)

The tx3 evo is easier to fit,the aidis cools slightly better - they're both a lot better than the freezer 7.

But the issue is that my cooler socket is rectangular, not square. You seem to think that my problem is that the cooler doesn't fit in the case. The evo has a rectangular socket, which is why I wanted to get it. I was just wondering if the dimensions would fit in my case.

no mate youre misinterpreting what I said - the freezer 7 pro will only mount this way on an amd board

the square bracket that comes in the box is for an intel build - you dont use this for an amd cpu - you use just the mounting arms which fixes directly to the stock amd motherboard mounts.
these are the only parts you need to use

If that's the case then I think that my cooler came missing a part, as there was no way to mount it on the stock bracket. I guess it could just be me being stupid but I've decided to get another cooler as I have already returned that one. Do you have any suggestions that would be good for my case but be compatible with my motherboard?

I think I see what you're trying to get at, but there was no possible way for it to work with the components I had (I think).

If suggesting a new cooler, please remember that my bracket is rectangular and my case is a CiT Vantage.
