i just buult a pc for myself with gigabyte motherboard 78mlt, gtx 950, fx 6300, and 450 w power supply.
i just installed ubuntu and it is very laggy. i tried playing witcher 2 on steam, and the first problem was that there was no option for changing graphical setting, other than gamma and brightness, and secondly the pc got very loud and the game lagged badly, idk what is the problem. can u help. i rhink i connected all the wires the right way and all case fans working, except i installed cpu stock cooler the wrong way, but it was too late to change because thermal pasted was stuck to cpu. so i had to use some force to clip it to motherboard.

You need to mount CPU cooler correctly - if it overheats, it will be throttling -> reason for luggy.
Also, have you installed nvidia binary drivers ?

the ubuntu provided the drivers with installation, and is that really big deal which way cpu cooler stands, the fans facing up, it is just that i put a silver pin on the side where blue pin was supposed to go.

The ubuntu, by default is not using nvidia drivers. they must be enabled and installed separately.
no game will adequately run without those drivers installed
