My gpu doesnt have a DVI port, yet my monitor only supports 144hz through DVI, and not HDMI/VGA (which are the other two connectors it has) so currently I'm stuck at 60hz. My motherboard has a DVI port but I don't want it to go off of my CPU, is there a setting to change that or am I screwed for now?

There are active Displayport to DVI adapters that can output 75-100hz that are no less than $50. There are some in the $100-150 range that can do 120-144hz, but they are extremely hard to find for sale anywhere. You may be better off returning the graphics card and getting one that has a DVI output. What model graphics card did you buy?
