My new GTX 1080 is doing worse than my old 970 did.

Specs:

CPU: Intel i7-6700k
GPU: EVGA GTX 1080 sc
PSU: 500w
Ram: 16gb

So today I got my new graphics card which I was expecting to be an overkill for my current 2560x1080p monitor. Well needless to say my old GTX 970 could run gta v on medium settings at 60fps. Well now with my new 1080 for some reason I can't run any settings without it being under 60fps. This isn't a game setting limitter either because it's drastically underperforming in various other games. I can only run about half my titles at 60 fps in 1080p. Does anyone know what is going on here?

Edit: there is no vsync anywhere it's fully unlocked, most games don't reach 60fps. Yet it runs rainbow six siege at 60fps with vsync on.

Refund it and get gtx1180 in august

Make sure the new driver install didnt activate VSYNC in your GeForce experience settings.

Did you do a CLEAN install of your display drivers?

I did not do I clean install. I just used GeForce experience to update.

Try performing a clean install-best way is use DDU in safe mode, remove all old drivers, reboot and then install the latest ones.

1) Double check you have the monitor plugged into the graphics card, not the motherboard.
2) Check your CPU temps, you might have disturbed the cooler causing it to throttle.

There is a link to some of my system stats while im running gta v in the background. I did the clean fresh driver install and set all gta settings up and turned off vsync. But from what I've seen is I shouldn't be struggling to run 1080p in games. A gtx1080 is always considered "overkill".

What type of PSU, only thing I can think now is the card isn't getting enough power to run full speed.

Its just a stock hp 500w supply which I understand may limit performance. But i figured that it should at least run as good as my old 970.

No man! That HP 500w is most likely NOWHERE near 500 watts actually. Probably lucky if,it is 400 watts. Theres your problem! You need a quality PSU unit.

My fps is fixed. Im not entirely sure what it was I did to fix it but my likely guess was that I went into windows power settings and changed it from balanced to high performance. Now I can run everything maxed out 70+ fps.
