My newly bought ext hard drive makes beeping noise

The hdd makes beeping noise at fixed interval (every 2 seconds or so, sometimes longer). It stops making the sound when transferring data. And my last concern is the hdd take too long to eject/dismount.

(Edit : i forgot to add my question)
Is this normal noise or what?
