I typically play a lot of online fps titles like COD Blackops 4, PUBG, Battlefield titles and stuff along those lines. My questions is what would be the best piece of hardware/peripherals to upgrade next to improve my overall gaming experience/performance? Currently I am just looking to put another $200-$400 bucks into it as of right now so I am just curious as to what my best options would be as far as bang for my buck goes..Below is my current setup and specs. Thanks for your help!!

CPU: i5 6400 (2.7 ghz)

GPU: AMD Radeon RX 480 (4GB)

Motherboard: MSI H110M Pro-VD Plus

16 GB RAM DDR4 SDRAM

120GB Solid State Drive

1TB hard drive

Monitor: LG-ULTRAWIDE 2560X1080p (60hz) w/freesync

Keyboard: Corsair K55

Mouse: Logitech G602

Headset: Corsair Void Pro RGB

Either go for CPU or GPU. GPU will give the biggest bang for your buck; however, it would also be limited some in CPU intensive games. Used i7-6700K or i7-7700K are both pretty expensive. And since you have an H110 motherboard, I'd probably go with a new 8th or 9th-gen i5 instead which would also require a new motherboard. You could get on a Z-series motherboard to ensure you get the most out of a K-series CPU for gaming.

With your 60Hz monitor.. and freesync... too bad AMD doesn't have any good options. Vega 64 is overpriced for under-performing against the GTX 1080. Same with Vega 56. The RX 590 is also somewhat disappointing and not really enough of an upgrade from an RX 480.

Check your CPU and GPU usage while in-game on all your favorite games and see which one is getting maxed out the most. I would want to upgrade that first.

Thanks for the info! Do you recommend I stick with an Intel CPU or does AMD have some decent options as well? Also, I was considering upgrading to 144hz monitor, but I am just not sure if that's something I would benefit from at all with my current setup or if I would need a better gpu to even consider getting a 144hz display.
