Question My ODD is making strange noises and won't open

So this is just a brand new problem. When I turn on my PC my Optical Drive makes a strange noise and it won't open by it. Thankfully my PC is running normal is just it'll take a bit long to boot up to Desktop due to the ODD not opening at all.

Is because of the belt inside the ODD and need to be replaced and my main concern is...will it not affect my PC at all? Let me know cause I was a bit nervous and worried on how my PC is gonna last long with that thing not opening.

I wouldnt try to repair the odd. Just buy a new one.

Overall, in agreement with @remix.

However, if the ODD is having problems and you try to load or install something via the ODD there could be some file corruption that, in turn, may wreak havoc.

Likely you might be able to "live with it" as the saying goes with respect to the ODD's noise making and potential malfunctions.

Yet, just in case, ensure that all data is backed up and verified recoverable. Ensure that you have images or clones on hand to help restore your system if something bad does indeed happen.

Which you should be doing anyway.

Weigh the risks you are willing to take.

I second the purchase of a new ODD.
