Hi, Everyone!

I recently upgraded my computer. Got a Gigabyte Z390 UD motherboard with an intel 9700k, 16gb of RAM (Corsair), a Radeon 5700 from MSI and, finally, an NVME M.2 970 Evo plus SSD

Having installed everything correctly. The first time. (I'm still amazed at that!) i found that my old SSD, a Samsung 840 EVO is reporting faster speeds than my 970!
How fast? TWICE as fast.

Look here.

Now, the drive seems to be correctly installed. The speed appears to be in range of what's supossed to be. Also, the drive is using the proper ammount of lanes, as you can see here.

So, how come and older SSD, on SATA, is faster than a new M.2 drive on the PCI-E interface?

Thank you for your time.

If you have RAPID mode turned on for that 840, that's why.
That is mostly reading the speed of your RAM.

RAPID mode uses part of your RAM as a cache for the drive, and that is what it is reading.

I figured as much. I activated RAPID mode on the 870, but the difference was so big that I actually thought that I missed something in the installation.

Thanks for your answer.
