ok, i only have 50gb space on my SSD and my OS is here. it's fast, but all the application try to install here, even the ones I have on my HDD have some sort of installation on my SSD.

now about 1week ago I only had around 2-4gb of space left on my SSD, then the past couple of days I had problems of it only having 200-600mb of space fluctuating.

I tried uninstalling all my games, even the ones on my HDD, and Visual Studio, and also removed all temporary files which amounted to around 1gb.

but is still only has this much space, and sometimes goes to 0. Is there anyway I can fix this??

I plan on buying a new SSD just to transfer my OS since this is old, and is running out of space even before this happened.

I just want to find a way to make all the programs work for awhile with limited space since some programs are not working because of no memory. I need to wait to be able to buy a new SSD.

and what type of SSD do you recommend?? and how do I transfer my OS in it?? I don't have an OEM btw, so I think it can be transferred??

Solution
Try malwarebytes it's free, do a full scan. I've had same problem as you massive chunks where getting eaten up and only happened when i was online it was a virus.
And yes depends what format the movie is in online if it's xvid or mp4 easy a gig but youtube are flv and short so only MBs. Thre's more than one temp folder as well and disk cleanup finds the error dumps which builds up gigs. Last night my ssd was down to 40gb i gained 23gb by cleaning crap manually without an app just from temp and error folders, if you don't use hibernate you can gain 6gb by turning it off it's the hiberfil.sys in your c drive.
i didnt do anything to it, i just saw some windows update and that's it. but i doubt windows takes 2-4gb of space since i update regularly.

btw, before i wrote this, i only had 200mb of space, but now it's at 2gb, sometimes it goes back down to almost 0.

i dont know what's happening. why does all the space disappear??

why do i nid to disable system restore?? i dont want to turn that off.

for the .net temp files, i'll try that later, it's just i'm not comfortable doing those since i don't know much about the commands.

my C: drive is still fluctuating, right now at around 1-2gb and it's going down more and more as long as I'm using my pc.

guess those are the temp files, but I dont know.

How much RAM do you have installed? If you have 6+ GBtyes, you can probably take your page file size down considerably. Windows defaults to making it the same size as the amount of ram you have installed, so if you have 8GB, your pagefile will be 8GB. You could probably set it down to 1GB and be just fine, while freeing up the other 7GB of SSD space. I'm running on a Samsung SSD as I'm typing this and I have it set to 200MB initial size/1GB Max size which was set from Samsung's SSD software. I haven't had any problems doing this as it defaulted to 16GB Pagefile by default from Windows 8.1 install. If you don't feel comfortable with this or have already tried it, maybe a quick run of CCleaner may free up some space.

edit: it says on dxdiag that im using 5362mb of pagefile so less than 6gb and there's available around 10gb.

my ram is 16gb. i just checked on how to change the pagefile.

but on the system properties > performance option > virtual memory it says im using 0 on all drives.

i want to add all the virtual memory needed to my hdd(1tb currently) instead of ssd(2gb currently)

would anything happen?? like my pc slowing down??

btw, i just replaced my mobo and had to reinstall a new copy of windows (now 8.1 pro) if that's important.

if there's any tutorial on what i have to do you can link it or tell me. thanks.

I would suggest these options to free up some hard drive space.

Best Disk Cleanup Utilities:
CCleaner does a good job and can liberate up to GBs depending on the time temps and other system junk has accumulated, and also total disk size... but it's not the only program of it's type.

And or sign up to Google Drive to temporarily move some of your files to a google server.

Delete all but latest restore points and downlod malwarebytes and do a scan make sure you have no viruses. Use disk cleanup and tick all the boxes. All programs>accessories>systm tools>disk cleanup. You will have loads of windows temps from the new install. I instalLed windows 7 ultimate 5 days ago and last night disk cleanup gave me 18gb back.

Why ask for help then when people suggest something say you don't want to?

And btw my windows is 21gb so it's a definite that yours is bigger than 2-4gb!
Uninstalling all your games and emptying temp only gave you 1gb?

Oh i forget do you watch videos online? The content downlods to temp folder and takes up a bit of space but deletes itself when you close video page could explain the fluxuations!

thx for all the suggestions.

btw, the only suggestion i turned down was the turning off system restore, i know maybe there was space to it, but that was important, so i didnt understand why someone would suggest it. i dunno maybe it can be ok, he didnt explain though.

right now i already use ccleaner, almost once a day because of me running out of space.

i might try disk cleanup too thx for that, and yes uninstalling the games only gave around 1gb because they are installed in a different drive, not in my ssd, but some storage space is still being used in my ssd.

and yes, i watch videos online, netflix and crunchyroll primarily, but also youtube sometimes. i know they store some space, but it can go upto 1gb per movie??

uhm, the 2-4gb space is what's left after everything is installed, so that's not my OS, sry if you misunderstood.

i tried the disk cleanup, but there was only 50mb?? of file in there so i didnt bother.

what helped was turning off hibernate, it gave back 13gb of space?? what the hell, and i dont even use it.

thx again.
