[SOLVED] My PC, a lenovo Thinkcentre has been giving me this screen after the bios every time before it somehow manages to boot to windows after half an hour

This screen keeps on looping with the fan doing these tick noises as if turning off and starting again. I have no idea what this all means especially the AHCI CD-ROM, PXE-E53, PXE-M0F and 1962. I tried disabling the PXE from the bios but it didn't quite work either. Any ideas? Comment below if you need any more info.

Since that is an old system first thing I would do is copy your files out of the drive to an external for backups (or put them on cloud storage like Google Drive), and replace it with a new one, or better yet buy a full newer used system for like $80 or $100. Core 2 Duo system with the original drive, not very odd it has issues. Pretty much the first thing I replace in computers I work on is the drive, I work on a lot of laptops to re-sell and replace drives in 90% of them even if they test OK. Older drives just develop issues over time, they run slower, even if tests show they are OK. Every computer upgrade I do, I get a new system drive even if I keep some other components.

The storage drive is the most vital thing for your data...

The screenshot you posted clearly shows that the hard drive is not present. So you either have a failed/failing hard drive or you are not telling us everything.

Then you are about to get a harsh lesson in exactly why backups are preached here.

It boots in to Windows eventually most probably because the drive, whilst not having yet failed completely, is very near to doing so and that's why keeping backups is essential. The drive should be replaced as soon as possible (that's rather obvious since it takes half an hour for it to boot successfully!).

Yes the CPU does the actual thinking, but your memories and knowledge is in the drive. Any CPU can run a computer, but the files on your drive are unique to you. And the power supply keeps the system running and healthy, so you want that to be in good shape as well.

I have disabled PXE and put HDD at 1st order in boot priority list. This was done prior to today's post.

Alright, is there anyway to test if the HDD is failing? @SamirD And I'll walk through in detail exactly what happens from powerup to me typing this:

I turn on the power switch from the board. The power led on the PC flashes and the fan goes full intensity for 3-4 secs and then the PC turns off. I push the power button on the PC and the power led flashes again and the fans blows full intensity for 3-4 secs before the fan dies down and I hear continuous ticking or snapping noises 5-6 times and the bios splash screen (with the LENOVO logo) appears simultaneously. It appears for a minute and then I get the:

1962: No operating system found. Press F1 to repeat boot sequence.


It keeps saying this and then I push the power button on the PC and it turns off. I push it again and the power led flashes again and the fans blows full intensity for 3-4 secs before the fan dies down and I hear continuous ticking or snapping noises 5-6 times and the bios splash screen (with the LENOVO logo) appears simultaneously. THIS time however, I press enter to interrupt the bios and go into the bios settings from which I exit without making any changes and then voila, No error message and the system boots successfully. I open chrome and then open this forum and ask for help.

The reason I doubt the HDD is failing is that I have never seen one fail in my lifetime and I can get the system to boot if I coax it enough which should not be possible if the HDD had failed.
 
What you doubt is irrelevant. Just because you personally have never witnessed a failure does not mean that it doesn't happen. The drive is exhibiting classic signs of failure and requires immediate replacement, after backing up as much of your data as possible. Failure to do so and you will very soon be back here asking how to retrieve data off of a completely dead drive.

I have seen dozens fail, and hundreds of posters on this site have had drives fail. Up to you what you want to do, I doubt you can get the system working properly without a new drive, and in general that thing should be replaced like I said in my original post.

Drives fail all the time, treat your data like the drive will fail next hour if you like to keep your files safe. Just because the system works after it fails to boot a bunch of times does not mean the drive is good. If you get your legs cut off you can still crawl places, would you say you were in perfect shape then because you can still move around? There are levels of things going bad, a drive does not have to be fully not working to be failing or not good to use.
