Question My PC build is very slow and laggy, how do i fix it ?

Hello everyone!
For the past couple of years, my pc has been very slow. I recently upgraded from a 1660 Ti to a 1080 Ti, and from 8GB RAM to 16GB, but it didn't help very much. MC fps ranges from 50-200fps, and SWJS is around 30-50 fps, but with stutters so bad that it makes the game almost unplayable at times. There are stutters in every game i play, and i can't even play games on google. Some games more than others tho. CSGO runs fine. I wonder if this has something to do with the CPU. So my question is, why does my pc suck so bad? And what do i need to upgrade to make it better, or can i just reset my pc or something.

The specs are:
Motherboard: Don't know what brand
GPU: 1080 Ti 11G
CPU: Intel Core i5-9400F
RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR4-3200 (2 x 8GB)
SSD: Kingston A400 240GB
HDD: 500GB, don't know what brand
PSU: 650W, don't know what brand

I have tried finding the receipt for my pc, but can't so that's why i can't post the precise components.
Help would be greatly appreciated

Hi,

You can first check if all the components you have are running normal or having some issues.

Use HWinfo to monitor the temperature and clock speeds of your CPU and GPU in one of your gaming sessions.

The 1080ti will boost around 1900mhz depending on the temps and load.

The 9400F should again boost to 4.1 ghz

Cross check if your rams are running in XMP mode for 3200mhz and dual channel mode. (1st and 3rd ram slot or 2nd and 4th ram slot)

How much free space do you have in your SSD/HDD? might be a good idea to defrag the drives once in 6 month if you do not keep files organised. You have the game in your SSD?

You can probably tell us the make and model of your PSU, opening and looking inside your PC?

When was this PC built?

You are above the minimum requirements for SWJS, but at what graphics settings?

Thanks for the advice, i'll check on the PC when i get home, and use HWInfo. I think my ram is running on 2133Hz, so i'll try to activate XMP when i get home.

I don't have that much free space, and i'm pretty sure that SWJS is on the SSD. I'll try defragging. I'll open the PC and check the psu when i get home. I bought the PC around 5 years ago, and upgraded the GPU and RAM 3 months ago. And the fps i wrote before for SWJS was on the lowest settings, with optimizing mods.

PSU: NAXN BRONZE 500W
My ram can at the maximum run at 2667 mhz because of my processor apparently. But it is now on XMP.
While running SWJS, my GPU temperature was 83.9 degrees, and the hot spot was 98 degrees (all in celsius)
And it says that the maximum temperature is 84 degrees, so that can't be good. And the CPU was at 61 degrees, and it says that the maximum temperature is 63 degrees. The GPU was at 1800mhz. I just defragged the drives, and it seemed to help a bit on both games. I have about 122 GB of free space on my HDD, but only 4 GB on my SSD
What do you recommend i do from here?

Stuttering is caused by a temporary lack of a critical resource.
Usually cpu.
To do a quick check on your 9400F run the cpu-Z bench test.
Look at the single thread rating.
It should be about 452:

What is the make/model of your motherboard?
CPU-Z will tell you.
If your limitation is the cpu, there are no great processor upgrades available to you.

240gb is often not sufficient for the C drive.
If your ssd is approaching 90% full, it will start to get slower.

The GPU hotspot might be a bit high? If the GPU boosts to 1800mhz, thats higher than the 1550mhz official clock. So i guess it is not thermal throttling.

I assume you have confirmed that the game is in your SSD. Try freeing up more space in your SSD, like about 75gb free space and try the game 1 more time.

And i am also guessing that the CPU boosted to 4.1 ghz?

If those help you a bit, an extra SSD might help you a bit. But i would not suggest spending more cash on a dead platform.

If you want to start slow, you can reuse your rams and get a 12400f B660/760 mobo.

And also get a new PSU. That PSU you have is a fire hazard for use with a 1080Ti

With the B760 mobo, you can upgrade again to Intel Bartlett lake CPUs coming next year-ish

Check your drivers and check your temps. Make sure ALL drivers ae up to date and check the thermals.

It's a fire hazard, because it's a very poor quality power supply. It's made with inferior parts. It shouldn't be used with a relatively power hungry GPU. It's likely the PSU will trip it's overprotection and restart your PC. This is not good. If the PSU goes 'POP', then there is a chance it can damage your other components. You should really get a decent quality PSU. It is the heart of your system. You want a strong heart, right?

That's exactly what i was about to ask, what RAM slots are you using on your motherboard? Are you using slots 2 and 4, or are the ram sticks right next to each other in the motherboard?

My ram is operating on 2667mhz, because my CPU limit is 2667mhz. And they are in slots 2 and 4

Alright thanks man. I’ve been running with the 1080 Ti in my PC for about three months. Do i need to upgrade the PSU right away, or can i keep on playing? Because i just bought a VR headset, and im dying to use it haha. I haven’t had any issues yet with the PSU and 1080 Ti. I plan to upgrade the PSU, motherboard, and CPU once i save up for it. PSU as a top priority
