My pc cant access my hard drive

Hello,
i am trying to attach 2nd hard drive in my pc. it is hitachi 320 gb, sata 3.0.
but my pc is not accessing it. although it is shown in bios setting, that it is there, but pc cant access it.
i have also tried manage drive in control panel-> administration tool-> computer management, nut hard drive is not shown there too.
is there any problem with sata cable as i have old one
please resolve it asap, waiting desperately for replies.

is it a new hard drive? It might need a low level format before it will pick it up. My friend had that problem a little while ago.

as an afterthought if it is formatted as a Dynamic Disk you will have to import it.

Please tell us your OS, 32 or 64 bit? Motherboard, last time you updated drivers for your chipset, and anything else that might stand out in your set-up. What's the setting in your BIOS, AHCI set-up or IDE?

my motherboard is asusp5kpl-am in and os is xp 32 bit of course

yes its a new hard drive. is something wrong with asus motherboard. ??
