hi, im planning on upgrading my graphics to a gtx 1070 and am wondering if my pc will handle it; more accurately this one - http://www.game-debate.com/hardware/index.php?gid=3586&graphics=GeForce%20GTX%201070%20MSI%20Gaming%20X%208GB%20Edition
GeForce GTX 1070 MSI Gaming X 8GB Edition

my specs:
-intel core i7 3770 3.4ghz
-4x4gb ram (aka 16gb), theyre ddr3
-motherboard: gigabyte technology z77-ds3h
-chipset: intel ivy bridge
-current graphics: gtx 660 (gddr 5)
-w7 64bit
-psu has 550w and its a HEDY

i hope i didn't leave any of the info out for yall to determine if everything is ok. furthermore, id also like to know if it will bottleneck with anything and if it will fit into my pc. therefore, if i need to provide any additional info for you guys to give me the right answers, ill obviously do it just point me in the right direction. THANKS!

edit: heres a picture of my open pc case and a 29.5cm ruler next to it for measurement --

Hey,

1) You will have times when the CPU will bottleneck, however most of the time it will be a GPU bottleneck. So there's no issue with the GTX1070 that way, but to be clear saying "no bottlenecking" is simply not true.

Here's a worst-case to demonstrate this: http://www.gamersnexus.net/game-bench/2182-fallout-4-cpu-benchmark-huge-performance-difference

Most games will have less than 10% gain when pairing a better CPU with a GTX1070.

2) POWER SUPPLY:
You have enough power, HOWEVER, that card requires 1x8-pin, and 1x6-pin power connectors. (there's no need for the 6-pin as well but according to the site it has both)
https://ca.msi.com/Graphics-card/GEFORCE-GTX-1070-GAMING-X-8G.html#hero-specification

You may get there with adapters if you don't have sufficient:
a) 6+2 is same as 8-pin (no adapter needed)

b) 2xMOLEX-> 6-pin adapters exist

c) 2x6-pin-> 8-pin adapters exist.

For example, if you only had one "6+2" pin power cable you would use that for the 8-pin connector, and use the 2xMOLEX-> 6-pin adapter (which may come with the box).

Otherwise, use pcpartpicker to find a better power supply.

3) LENGTH
As said, should be good. That card is 279mm long (27.9cm).

so let me sum this up and see if i understood you correctly;

1) i dont really understand much of this part.. did you mean the card could run certain games on better quality (in this case fo4) but my cpu will prevent that (to a small/certain degree) and render the card unable to reach its actual ("full") potential, causing a slight bottleneck?

2) so ill need a 6-pin AND an 8-pin connector to properly and efficiently connect (like its supposed to be done) the card for it to work?

3) all good here 😀

thanks for your time man!

actually the 1070 xtreme gaming is 29cm long so are you sure itll still fit? as an alternative, do you think a 28cm would fit?

that aside, ill measure the case today more thoroughly to determine myself but id also like to hear other people's opinions to compare my findings and then see what yall think and if theres a solution to a possible setback
