Hi for some reason my pc is deciding to cap my fps at the same amount as my monitor resolution how can i change this ?

It is capping its fps at 144fps in games like Csgo (i have my monitor res set to 144hz) and i know for a fact i should be getting more for what i paid for.

my pc specs:
Gpu: Evga 8Gb GTX 1080 FTW

Cpu: Intel intel i5 6600k ( OC to 4.6 Ghz)

Ram: 2x8G CorsVengLED DDR4 3000 Red

Cpu cooler: Corsair H80iv2

Monitor :27" Asus PG279Q IPS 165hzG-Sync

Motherboard: Asus Z170 PRO GAMING/AURA

Psu: RMX650 PSU 650w

HDD: 2TB SEAGATE SATA3

SDD: 256GB Samsung SM961 NVMe M.2 S

would just like to know how i can make my pc have uncapped fps

thank you 😀

This leads to me believing your PC can't actually pull the amount of frames it should. Your FPS is locking because G-SYNC detects framerates close to your monitors refresh rate, somehow.

Monitor your CPU+GPU temperatures using MSI AfterBurner or HWMonitor, if they are both below ~70-75 when running a game, you're fine.

After doing that and it seems all good, reinstall graphics drivers using DDU:

Do this in safe mode, as it will ask you to do so.

Then, download the latest Nvidia driver from Nvidia's website and install it,

I will check that now but just as another thing i have gsync on my monitor could it be that ?

only thinking that as it might cap fps to stop screen tearing ? i donno XD

G-Sync won't cap your fps.

G-Sync don't cap your FPS, it actually make them look better overall, preventing image problem.
V-Sync does cap it tho, limiting to your monitor Hz

But, to be honest, there's no reason to get higher fps than you monitor can handle, it would make your GPU work harder, consuming more power and generating more heat and it won't benefit the smoothness or image quality of the game at all.

I know high fps are cool, i like them that way too, but to make my GPU last longer i just accept my monitor refresh rate as the max fps i can get.
That's my opinion, obviously.

Does help in competitive gameplay in CS:GO.

More fps = More responsive gameplay, regardless of what the monitor's refresh rate is.

I didn't know either until recently. The difference is probably minor anyway, but competitive players really want every inch of performance.

I have turned off vsync in the csgo menus where it says "wait for vertical sync" and has the tripple and double buffer settings but i think their might be vsync in my nvidia control panel as i just tried battlefield 1 and it has the same thing i dont know how to find this

Yea ok thank you i just wanted it off for like a second tho so i could see how much fps i get XD just bought this pc and wanted to know is all and that csgo thing

Open the Nvidia Control panel as shown in this image:
http://ipkonfig.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/DiabloIII_Vsync_Fix_001.jpg

And set Vsync to ''off'' in the global settings tab.

ok this is where it just gets like wtf i done that went on csgo and got 144fps max with bigger fps dpops ..... wtf

Hang on G-Sync synchronises your monitor refresh rate with your fps, you want them to be exactly in time for the smoothest experience. Surely this means G-Sync must cap your fps to the maximum refresh rate of the monitor otherwise they would no longer be in sync???

ok thank you

Just an update none of this worked i had to call a computer tech guy and got some good links to help fix this. watch dogs 2 is just an example. just go through the links and you will be able to solve your own problem easily use them to test what your cpu can do and to see how to unlock your pc from the annoying loop of constant v-sync when its off thanks.
