My PC is overheating when ever i play intensive video games and shutting down with no warning - how do i fix this?

My computer has been overheating and forcing the computer to shut down mid process. This only happens when playing games, not when browsing the internet or using non-intensive programs (word etc).
So when i investigated the fan speeds of my computer, i found that two of them are in the red zone so are, presumably, underperforming or are maybe underpowered(?).
I don't know how to fix this and have fiddled with the settings in this BIOS but haven't changed anything too drastically in fear of damaging the system.

You haven't provided any info on what CPU, what cooler, what case you have. No way to give you any practical info without that info.

54C would be really high if that is an idle temp.

That is while idle. It was just after one of the shutdowns mentioned so some of the temperature that caused it may have still been lingering.

And just in case any other details are needed:
GPU: Radeon R9 295X2
Motherboard: Asus Sabertooth 990FX
RAM: 4x8GB HyperX Predator

After leaving the computer idle for a while the temperature dropped to around 40 degrees celcius.

Take the side cover off and run with a desk fan blowing on it. You may have bad airflow in your case which is the problem. That 295X2 generates a lot of heat.

Since you are water cooling it would check and see if the pump is working. I would have to say that it is not = no water flow. Making your temps sky rocket as soon as you load up the cpu.

Idle temps should be no more than 10C-15C above ambient room temperature.

I agree with Kanewolf with respect to your GPUs. They exhaust a lot of hot air into the case.
Your AIO water cooler will struggle to keep temps in check with some games when under load and especially if you intend to OC.

How have you hooked up your Water cooler pump connection. To the CPU_FAN header?
