Hello and thanks before hand for anyone who can help !!,

So first off I'm running a GTX 970 and a I74790k thats cooled by a Corsair H100I GTX Cooler and i have all this in a NZXT H440 Case (Which is what I think is the problem). Now i've never had great temps but recently i've been hitting the 97-98 degree mark when im playing games which i'm finding very worrying. When i first installed the cooling unit I did have a slight issue with the thermal compound and I did end up fidgiting with it slightly moving it around, i'm not sure if that is the issue but I thought I should mention it.

Now i think it's the case because it has such poor ability to actually cool i mean my GPU idles at 40-50 a lot of the times too. Considering i bought this pc like 2 years back I didn't really expect to be running into such issues so soon.

Anyways, all help would be appretiated, or if i'm just overreacting I'm not sure.

Solution
Make sure your heatsnik is clean from dust. I recommend dissasembly of cooler, clean up, and apply new thermal paste again after cleaning the old one. If you install more case fans go for it. How many do you have? Are they set correctly? Front and side should be intake, rear and top should be exhaust. 98 C are hell of a lot. Your cpu is definetely throttling

Tbh case looks fine . Do what Tolis says Refit Cpu .Dont worry if it moves around a little while tightening as the compound will be liquified at this point . When it gets hot (burn in ) it will solidify . Take your time and check everything. And if the case or cooler is dusty clean it with a soft paint brush or compressed air. Dont vaccum it (static). I dont know much about water cooling but i'm sure somebody on here will .

So to answer your question Tolis, i have 6 fans not including the two on the 970, theys peeed up and slow down a lot I assume to regulate temp. I don't think I need to buy more honestly.

Any of you have a reccomendation for thermal paste I can get ? I'm in the UK so Preferably Scan or somthing as the supplier.

Also wo uld the fan setup actually be a significant improovement ?? seems i have air being blown in from the top and the front and be exghausted out the back.

Yes the setup affects pretty much the airflow. As you know, hot air tends to go upwards, as it is lighter than cold air. This means that having your top as intake will force the hot air to go down again, while it should be exhausted. Reverse the setup and make your top as exhaust. Rear as exhaust as it is, and front-side as intake. Clean your heatsnik and apply paste. Problem will be solved.

Well I"ve orderd some is gonna be here tomorrow, in the mean time i did the fan switch around and it worked it got my idle temps down a little but then on restart i'm back at like 50-60 degrees on idle... I'm so confused. Also My fans dont seem to be spinning up a lot on high load. Like if i stress test my CPU the fans just stay constant like low RPM no change.

Cpu temps rise abruptly when the processor is under load. Do not expect to see lower cpu temps until you clean up your heatnisk and apply new paste.
Which fans have constant RPM? The cpu fan or the case fans? Where are they connected? To the motherboard directly? Are they PWM? What connectors do they have? 3-pin or 4-pin? What is your mobo?
PWM fans have 4-pin connectors and can attached to the motherboard. Into your bios, you can controll the speed of your fans. Auto setting will make your bios decide the speed of your case (chassis) fans and cpu fan as well. I would recommend setting the cpu fan in "full on" setting.

The cpu fans are running constant i plugged them into the connecters on the cooler one was 3pin one was 4 pin. the 3 on the front are standard NZXT ones and i have them connected to the System fan inputs on the mobo, the mobo is a Z97 Gaming 5.

Can it really be the thermal paste though considering i've had this build for like a year with the same paste on from the install and i have had no problems like this. My head is telling me it might be my cooler dying :<< which I hope is not the case.

This is with one chrome window open and thats it.

If the heatsnik is covered with dust, things like these can happen. Wait until you have it cleaned. You can download HWMonitor to check fan speed, voltages and temps. Sorry, i didn't quite get it, where is your cpu cooler plugged? Is it plugged on the mobo? Did you check in bios for fan speed options?

My cpu cooler fans are connected to the cooler, they have wires comming out the block that connect to the fans. i checked the bios it was MSI shit and when i chenged the CPU rpm's the fans didnt change only the system ones when i changed them.

when i look online I see that Corsair link built into the cooler is meant to be controlling the fans.... but it isn't.

when I get the thermal paste i'll try it on the H100i if it doesnt fix it i'll use the stock intel cooler and if that works then it must be a Cooler problem. If it is then Suggestions on a Liquid cooler plz :>
