My PC is shutting down and then rebooting instantly under heavy load

Hey, very often when my computer is under heavy load (gaming,furmark, although cpu stress test did not crash it) my computer suddenly shuts off and reboots instantly. My temps are on the high side under load (65 celsius cpu, 80 celsius gpu), but they don't seem to get high enough to cause a computer shutdown. If I leave on furmark for varying amounts of time my computer shuts down and restarts every time, but the temperatures are never the same when it does. So I think I've narrowed the problem down to the psu which caps at 480 watts, but I'd love for some confirmation so I don't go spending 50$ on something I didn't need to upgrade. Thanks!

Unfortunately lots of PSU don't produce their labelled power, that seems to be your case.

Regardless, your machine should need about 360W in load, most of that comes from the 12V rail (because it is where CPU and GPU draw from). So even if (and that's a BIG if) the Logisys PS480D could handle its labelled power of 480, it would not be sufficient for your machine, because it only has about 162W of power in its 12V rail.

Moving on, that PSU is probably a piece of junk with a false label. I would be very surprised if the Logisys can handle 300W at all, let alone 480. Hardware Secrets tested a couple of Logisys PSU, different models I grant you, but none of them could handle their labelled wattage and were shit.

Regardless of what your problem is, I would still recommend changing PSU to something with quality. You don't need an expensive PSU, a simple Corsair CX430 an you'll be ready to go. That's a quality PSU that will not only provide its labelled 430W, 384 of which are in the 12V rail by the way, but will do so with stability, quality, efficiency and protection.
