my pc is suddenly slow

for the past half a year ive seen a huge decresse in my pc preformance to the point where i cant run certion games completly.
for example, i used to run borderlands 2 on ultra with 60 fps but now i cant run borderlands 1 on lowest setting with maxed 30 fps

i heard that pc components arent getting old and that the preformance shouldnt change over time, so i thougt its a problem with my os/programs.
so is there a way to check for what is causeing my pc to lag?

Well we all know that PC's lose their performance as they age.
Maybe it's because you haven't been taking care of it.. Do a virus scan and upgrade your GPU drivers.
